Thanks ag! Glad you liked the last line.
I think my foray into Christmas Carols is over though. |

The Out in Hollywood site has a picture of Peter Paige, from some The History Boys event I think, and he's just about shaved all of his hair off. Not quite bald, but almost. If I knew how to attach such things to these posts I would, but I don't.

Something different. Watched Carols From St Paul's, this year's crop of 15 or so unbroken voices warbling high above the congregation singing O Come All Ye Faithful and so on. None of them can be above 12, and they're the best young musos in the land, always worth the watch, so skillful, so well, whatever they are. (One year might be fulla cheeky young showoffs, well aware they're the best and charming me right outa my britches; though not this year, matter-of-fact, get-the-job-done types, high point when they each took two hand bells and rang their way through a damn hard piece).
But jolt one came when the service read out the text where Jacob sleeps and dreams of a ladder from Heaven with angels ascending and descending, and the head angel tells him the land is promised him and his issue by God, forever. Political. Couldn't get more so. You heard it right from St Paul's. And jolt two came at service end. The 'cantor', after all the tuneful hymns, sings a goodbye message, peace of the world and so forth, almost all on one high note but with a little wobble to end each sentence, effect medieval, as it should be (music hadn't been invented then). Medieval? Why yes. Elizabeth 1, when she took up her reign and her Privy Council was all for abolishing Catholicism, wanted a 'middle way', and on her own authority, as Head of the new Anglican Church, inserted her own chosen relics of the old faith (idea being to keep the peace between factions, no burnings at the stake in HER realm thanks). The weird vestments we now see are the direct result, holdovers from the (Roman) mists of time; no bishops in business suits within the English church, for us. And this cantors' mode is another. The jolt? This year the cantor's a woman. It was odd in Elizabeth, who never married and told her Parliaments and Privy Council the realm would have "one mistress and no master!" (and who they found at death kept a midfinger ring with a miniature of Anne Boleyn under the stone), she would keep THIS badge of sex-supremacy alive. The chance was right up to change it then and there. But no, she stuck with tradition, and so 450 years after the camera now wanders from startled or wondering female face to female face, catching the different reactions, to this reclamation from being a class of liturgical nulls. Sex-supremacy in the Anglican Church is dying if not dead. You heard it right from St Paul's. |

Re: Cheers | ||

noxin thanks for that interesting bit of Anglican history. And the music you enjoyed must truly have been inspirational. Christmas music, presented like that, is such a treat, isn't it? I would think it would warm the Grinch's ole heart.
And thanks brandy for the Christmas greeting. I hope all of you who celebrate this holiday are having a beautiful day. |

Re: Happy New Year! | ||

A good turn-of-year to you, right back!
For years now I've let the calendars change imperceptibly. This year I just muted a delayed replay of Sydney's midnite show while actually listening to the rattle and boom of the local city-fireworks north, funneling down the chimney back of me. They quit well ahead of the Sydney spectacular might add, this is still a little city, if money-rich. Never all means much, but I let a preview of how easy it would be to clean up some accumulated messes pass in review. And today after a sleep, I've forgotten every one, honest! Business as usual! |

Re: Pimping my drabbles | ||
|
In case anyone is still reading this site (please tell me someone is out there!) I've been writing some drabbles every week at: asylums.insanejournal.com/qaf_drabbles/
As most of you know I've never written anything (that didn't rhyme) in my life but I figured even I could write 100 words. The first one I wrote was in response to the topic of "Stephen Colbert." I figured I knew both Colbert and QAF well enough that I could write something. I did and I've been writing at least 1 or 2 a week ever since. If you read them please let me know. I'd be interested in the opinions of my old friends. If you want, I can post some of the older ones here. Let me know if anyone (anyone at all) is interested and I'll do it. Thanks. |

hello out there! | ||

So, we've moved! I am very happy to know that refugee still exists. I'm feeling very nostalgic this morning
. If there are any barmaids I think we all need a morning refresher. How about a round of
Screwdrivers for all the movers!!!!!

Hello, muddor! So nice to see you. Yes, we've moved and it looks a bit different, but we're still here, minding the bar. Screwdrivers
coming up - and yes, I do intend a pun on the word "coming," just for ol' times sake. Personally, I'll have a Hot Buttered Brian. As soon as
I remember what the ingredients are. *scratches head*

I would love to join the Yuku party but I'm having my own this weekend. Flim and I are going to Reno for a weekend of gluttony, sin, drunkenness, gambling
and overall relaxation. So have a drink on me while I'm having many on my own.
Glad to see you again Muddor! And AG - always! |

phil....I like your new avatar. Gale at his smooooothest. He's such a beautiful man. Unless people mess with his hair. I was watching
some old epis recently and can't believe that egg beater hair stylist they had for a while. Didn't she get fired? Too late.
Although I live in San Diego I went out and bought a Patriots shirt, put it on and paraded the mall waiting to get beat up. We're just too laid back here...nobody even noticed. Hope you all are having a lovely weekend. |

Strangely enough, when they moved this to Yuku - whatever that is - they eliminated all the apostrophes! Maybe other punctuation marks too. I was just reading my philflamericks for an idea for something else and at first thought I had been careless when I saw an "its" instead of an "it's". However, I know for a fact that I did not write "didnt" instead of "didn't"! And I can't figure out a way to edit my comments so I guess they'll stay that way.

Left of the post there's a mess of links (and inside there's there's an apostrophe). One of them's (apostrophe) Edit. Been meditating a YUKU
HELP section, but still only finding out myself.
Yep. During the move, ALL apostrophes went west. We look like numbskulls. Infinitely too many to correct too. Also, you'll probably notice while editing, your paragraphing has gone west too. If you do, use the Preview button, to do em again. They seem to stick then. Added: The PHILFLAMERICKS are now opened for apostrophing.
